LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 21, 2008) − The University of Kentucky Alumni Association is seeking nominations for its Great Teacher Award. Deadline for receiving nominations is Nov. 3, 2008.

The association honor is the longest, continuously running awards program on campus to honor Great Teachers at UK. Each year, six teachers are presented with cash awards and recognition at a special dinner or luncheon in their honor. This year, the cash distribution to each teacher will be $2,500.

The award recognizes excellence in teaching at the university – whether at the undergraduate or graduate level. UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. is one of the past recipients of this award, which he has said was one of the greatest honors he has received. Only students may nominate candidates. In addition, the student organization, Omicron Delta Kappa, assists in selecting the final honorees. It is the only award on campus in which the award is based solely on what students have to say about their teachers.

Students may use a form to nominate a UK teacher who has meant a lot to them. All forms must be filled out completely and returned to the King Alumni House, at the corner of Rose Street and Euclid Avenue, no later than Nov. 3, 2008.
