LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 8, 2005) − A research breakthrough by professor Guo-Min Li, PhD, of the University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center, will be the cover story in the September issue of the premier international research science journal, Cell Magazine.
This advance in the field of DNA mismatch repair will have important implications for cancer prevention, early diagnosis and gene therapy because it provides the first complete description and reconstitution of the multiple elements required for the efficient repair of a single DNA mismatch.
DNA mismatch repair corrects errors in the genetic blueprint during DNA synthesis and is essential to maintain an intact genome.
Dr. Li’s work could lead to diagnostic tests that predict mismatched or mutated DNA often found in tumors, thereby providing early detection of many forms of cancer and other genetic disorders.
Cell Magazine is at the forefront of biological research and publishes original, high-impact, cutting-edge breakthroughs. An international journal with a circulation of more than 16,000 worldwide, Cell is an essential reference resource for benchmark biomedical researchers and scientists.
