Swingin' Holiday Cheer Comes to Singletary, TV

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec.12, 2008) − The Bluegrass Area Jazz Ambassadors invites the public to have a swingin' holiday season at "A Jazzy Holiday Concert." The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Singletary Center for the Arts Recital Hall. This concert also will be taped by local television station WTVQ and broadcast on Christmas in an edited version at 11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 25, on WTVQ 36 (Insight Cable Channel 10).

The popular Bluegrass Area Jazz Ambassadors are a performing ensemble affiliated with the Bluegrass Area Jazz Association, a nonprofit committed to the promotion of jazz education and the performance of jazz in the Bluegrass area. The Jazz Ambassadors are comprised of musicians from the community, both professional and amateur, as well as students from University of Kentucky Jazz Studies. The Jazz Ambassadors have been performing since 2004.

This 18-piece big band performs under the direction of Miles Osland, artistic director, and Raleigh Dailey and Mark Clodfelter, musical directors. The Jazz Ambassadors' leadership also serves on the faculty of the UK School of Music. Osland is a professor of saxophone and director of UK Jazz Studies; Dailey is an assistant professor of jazz studies; and Clodfelter is an assistant professor of trumpet.
