LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 18, 2009) Lyrasis has honored Stacey Greenwell, head of the University of Kentucky Libraries Information Commons (known as The Hub), with the 2009 NextGen Librarian Award for Leadership. The newly created awards program identifies and celebrates rising leaders in the library community. Greenwell's star is on the rise, in the 2008-2009 school year she has been recognized twice by state and national library organizations, including her recent selection as a fellow for the 2009 Frye Leadership Institute.

Lyrasis is a library network formed in 2009 after the merger of well-established library groups PALINET and SOLINET. The organization selected Greenwell for its NextGen Librarian Leadership award noting that she was nominated as “a true blended librarian” and “technology innovator.” As part of a training program on social networking at UK Libraries, Greenwell makes “house calls” to library staff to expose them to new tools and is part of the Second Life campus-wide group.

Greenwell, a native of Henderson, Ky., earned her bachelor's degree in English and her master's degree in library science from UK. A UK Libraries faculty member since 2001, she has managed UK’s information commons, The Hub, since its opening in March 2007. Outside of UK Libraries, Greenwell is active in the Special Libraries Association where she is currently running for the Board of Directors. A frequent presenter at library and technology conferences, she also is the author of a popular blog on information commons, The Uncommon Commons.

Lyrasis, a regional membership organization for libraries and information professionals, facilitates their success by providing access to shared knowledge and expertise, innovative products and services, and customized solutions to serve their communities effectively and, by working together, advance the profession. Lyrasis is the new organization resulting from the merger of PALINET and SOLINET, and currently serves nearly a third of the U.S., including 16 states east of the Mississippi, plus Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
