LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 1, 2008) − The importance of branding in sports marketing,
how to design and pay for new and expanded facilities, and the international expansion of major
league baseball. These are among the topics which will be examined May 5-7 during the
11th annual University
of Kentucky Sports Marketing Academy Presented by IMG College.
People from across the region and around the nation will take part in the academy, which is hosted in the Gatton College of Business and Economics building. UKSMA explores the dual concepts of marketing of sports, and marketing through sports, in a sophisticated, yet practical forum.
“We’ve been delighted with the success of the academy,” said Scott Kelley, director of the UKSMA and the Center for Sports Marketing at UK. Kelley, who also serves as director of the school of management and professor of marketing in the Gatton College, continued, “With the addition this year of IMG College as a presenting sponsor, we are more excited than ever. We've attracted a very strong lineup of speakers, including representatives from Major League Baseball International, Fox Regional Cable Sports Networks, DHL Express Sponsorship Marketing, International Stadia Group and others."
Besides the Gatton College, UK Athletics and Big Blue Sports Marketing also are partners in the academy, which offers professional certification to attendees in a three-year intensive program cycle.
This year’s program begins with registration at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in downtown Lexington Monday, May 5. Shuttle service will be provided between the hotel and the Gatton College building on UK’s campus.
While registration for the 2008 academy is sold out, information and additional details about the 2009 UKSMA can be found on the website.
