LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 22, 2006) − The University of Kentucky has
approved new custom-made regalia for doctoral degree graduates. The new regalia features a
traditional hood, UK blue gown, black velvet lapels with a UK logo on each side, and black
velvet bars.
“The Graduate Council investigated the possibility of designating customized academic regalia for UK doctoral students in response to suggestions given over the years by faculty and students,” said Jeannine Blackwell, dean of The Graduate School. “We are very pleased with the design of the new regalia and feel it represents the character of UK.”
The new design was suggested by the Department of Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles in the College of Agriculture under the direction of professor Susan Michelman. Regalia can be purchased or rented at the UK Bookstore through Friday, March 10, for guaranteed delivery by graduation. For more information, visit the Commencement 2006 Web site.
