LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 30, 2005) − In the October 3rd
issue of Newsweek, UK College of Nursing Professor Debra K. Moser will be featured in the
article, “The Good
Heart”.
The article focuses on Moser’s work, examining the importance of a patient’s psychological outlook as a factor in cardiovascular health. Overall, Moser’s research concentrates on improving morbidity, mortality and quality of life outcomes in patients with heart failure and acute myocardial infarction.
Debra K. Moser is a professor at the University of Kentucky and holds the college’s first endowed chair in nursing. She received her doctorate in nursing in 1992 from the University of California Los Angeles. In addition to her academic position, Moser is also the co-editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. A well-known expert in heart failure and acute myocardial infarction patient care, Moser lectures extensively on these subjects and has published more than 100 journal articles and two books.
Moser’s work has been recognized with more than 21 awards, including the prestigious Heart Failure Research Prize from the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Nursing. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the American Heart Association.
Most recently, Moser was awarded a Fulbright Senior Scholar Award through which she will spend four months in Australia lecturing and conducting collaborative research on heart failure. Moser was recently made a member of the board of directors of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses [AAHFN].
