HIV/AIDS Conference Set for October

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 7, 2009) − The Southeastern Conference on HIV/AIDS for primary care providers in rural Kentucky and Tennessee will be held Oct. 24, 2009 at Woodsen Bend Resort Park in Bronston, Ky.

This medical education conference is the first of its kind in the area and is designed to provide useful and up-to-date information about best practices for primary care providers concerning HIV/AIDS and STIs. Physicians, physician assistants, and advanced practice nurses who currently, or who could potentially, provide primary care to HIV/AIDS patients are encouraged to attend.

Participants will be able to obtain the Kentucky state HIV course for medical professionals certificate required for licensure within the state. 

Upon completion of the conference, participants will be able to describe and diagnose the basic symptoms of both acute and chronic HIV, discuss primary care issues relative to a diagnosis, demonstrate knowledge of basic HAART regimens and patient safety issues revolving around those medications. They will also be able to list characteristics and treatment of the most common STIs.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essential areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the UK College of Medicine and the Kentucky Education Training Center. The UK College of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The UK College of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
