Solar Car Wins Second Place

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 8, 2009) − The University of Kentucky Solar Car Team finished in
second place Friday, June 5, in the Formula Sun Grand
Prix at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, Texas.
The UK car, Gato Del Sol III, completed 393 laps over three days, with its fastest lap timed at two minutes, 33 seconds. Thirteen members of the UK Solar Car Team made the trip; all are students in the UK College of Engineering.
The team finished behind the University of Minnesota's car, Centaurus, which completed 487 laps. Its fastest lap was timed at two minutes, 20 seconds.
The team tracked its progress through the qualifying and race on Twitter. Its tweets also included links to video, including a pit stop.
The team members who went to Texas were team leader Mark Taylor, Nick Such, Eric Ellis, Brian Stucker, Sam Nicaise, Kassy Lum, Jimmy Frilling, Kevin Wieman, Krishna Prayaga, Matt Deye, Steven Hughes, Mike Scharfenberger and Keith Etheredge.
