'Grand Night' Kicks off Summer Arts Season With a Bang

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 5, 2009) − This year's "It's a Grand Night for Singing" rocks and rolls, croons and sways, belts and harmonizes, serenades and swings. The much-loved start to the summer arts season, presented by University of Kentucky Opera Theatre, will celebrate its 17th year with a concert stage full of new faces as well as long-time audience favorites. Showtimes for "Grand Night" are 7:30 p.m., June 12-13 and 19 -20, and 2 p.m., June 14 and 21, at the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

A popular town-and-gown celebration, "Grand Night" is a two-hour song and dance fest featuring outstanding voices from UK and the Lexington and central Kentucky community. Music from this year's "From Broadway to Billboard" theme will include beloved tunes from such theatrical hits as "Hairspray," "A Chorus Line" and "South Pacific."

This year's cast includes such well-known singers as Everett McCorvey, Sherrie Phelps, Eric Brown, Jennifer Parr, Whit Whitaker, Reginald Smith Jr., Amanda Balltrip, Alicia Helm McCorvey, Pamela Perlman, Jan Hooker, Susan Rahmsdorff, Luther Lewis and many more.

The talented minds behind "Grand Night" include Executive Producer Everett McCorvey, Co-Directors James W. Rodgers and Peggy Stamps, Orchestra Conductor Robert Baldwin, Associate Music Director Tedrin Blair Lindsay and Assistant Music Director Nan McSwain.
