LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 4, 2009) − University of Kentucky Opera Theatre alumna
Reshma
Shetty has been cast as Divya
Katdare, physician assistant to a somewhat reluctant Hamptons "concierge doctor"
in the new USA Network television series "Royal Pains."
Shetty is among the cast of four featured on the new program premiering tonight at 10 p.m. on
USA (Insight Cable Channel 26).
Faculty at UK Opera Theatre were delighted to hear about Shetty's new TV role.
“We are very excited about Reshma’s accomplishments since leaving UK,” said Everett McCorvey, director of UK Opera Theatre. "Reshma was very involved with many of UK Opera’s productions and she participated in several Grand Nights. She continues to stay in touch with us here at UK and we are thrilled that this opportunity has opened up for her.
"Royal Pains" centers on the Hamptons' newest doctor-on-demand, Hank Lawson, played by Mark Feuerstein. Hank, a young doctor on the fast track to success, falls from grace when he is blamed for the death of a hospital trustee and stumbles into the world of private medical service for the elite denizens of the Hamptons. With encouragement from his brother Evan, played by Paulo Costanzo, and Shetty's character Katdare, an ambitious young woman who volunteers to be his physician assistant, Hank reluctantly agrees to be a "concierge doctor" for the summer.
Rounding out the cast of main characters for the new USA television program is Jill Flint portraying Jill Casey, an administrator at a local Hamptons hospital. The show also includes appearances by Christine Ebersole and Campbell Scott.

Shetty holds a bachelor's degree from James Madison University, a master's degree in music from UK, and an artist diploma from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Upon graduation from the conservatory, Shetty nabbed the lead role of Priya in A.R. Rayman's/Andrew Lloyd Webber's first national tour of "Bombay Dreams" and was asked to appear as Ayah in Broadway's World AIDS Day Benefit "The Secret Garden."
Additional theatre credits for Shetty include roles and readings with the Contemporary American Theatre Festival, The New Dramatists, The Playwrights Forum and The Lark Theatre Company. This past spring, Shetty opened to rave reviews in her Off-Broadway debut at The New Group starring in Ayub Khan-Din's "Rafta Rafta."
Shetty also has been seen on NBC's "30 Rock." In 2008, she made her big screen debut opposite Ally Sheedy and Ruby Dee in "Steam." Shetty, who now resides in New York City, is also the face of Dove Moisturizer bar in India.
