LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 12, 2009) − The Education Abroad at UK section of the University of Kentucky Office of International
Affairs announces the winners of the 2008-2009
Education Abroad Photo Contest.
The photo contest allowed education abroad participants to share glimpses of their experiences abroad.
The photos were divided into categories for judging. In the "details" category, the winning photo was "Locks of Love" by Laura Bowling. Second place in that category went to "Essence of Venice by Caitlin McGaughey."
In the "Life and Human Elements" category, Jessica Larson took first place with "Emmanuel." Larson was also recognized for her photo "Mending."
In the category of "Cityscapes," Jonathan Collett took both first and second places with "Castle on the Lake" and "Copenhagen, the City of Spires," respectively. Shea Poynter's photograph "Granada, Spain, as seen from the Alhambra" took third place.
Four photographs received honorable mentions. They are: "Romania" by Lindsay Newland, "Periphery of the Unknown" by Ann DeSanctis, and two photographs by Viral Patel -- "P'urhepechan Destiny" and "Spirited Hands."

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) encourages the internationalization of the campus, curriculum and community at the University of Kentucky. OIA facilitates international activities both on and off campus -- providing leadership, coordination and service. UK has welcomed international students for more than seven decades, and OIA offers guidance and support to hundreds of international students, staff, faculty and scholars each year. The office also advises U.S. students and other members of the campus community who study, work, teach and travel abroad.
