LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 22, 2009) – UK College of Medicine Dean Dr. Jay Perman
has appointed Alan Daugherty as senior associate dean for research in the College of Medicine,
effective May 1. Daugherty, professor of internal medicine and Gill Foundation chair in
preventive cardiology, will continue in his current leadership role as director of the UK
Cardiovascular Research Center.
Daugherty was appointed following a national search conducted by the dean’s research affairs advisory committee. In his senior associate dean role, Daugherty will chair this committee, which is envisioned to become a permanent standing committee of the College of Medicine. The research affairs advisory committee will assist the dean and senior associate dean of research in the articulation of strategy and policy intended to further enhance the college’s research mission.
On Tuesday, Daugherty was named the American Heart Association Scientist Advocate of the Year for his work in promoting the importance of cardiovascular research.
The senior associate dean for research role was formerly held by Dr. C. William Balke, who is now associate provost for clinical and translational science.
