LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 11, 2008) − The Big Robot Ensemble brings to campus a live interactive media concert experience at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the Recital Hall at the Singletary Center for the Arts. This telematic art production is free and open to the public.

Big Robot creates original artistic works that interweave aesthetic expression with computer interactivity and information technology in a medium known as telematic art. Telematic art synthesizes mediums such as live music, dance, drama and visual arts with Internet-based interactive media and performance content. The resulting productions connect media-rich spaces to the real world using modern communication systems.

Big Robot stands among the early groups embracing the Internet as a platform for performance in this newly emerged medium. The ensemble performs live in various venues and also in the Telematic Studio at the Donald Tavel Arts Technology Research Center at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).

The core group at IUPUI is comprised of percussionists Scott Deal, professor of music, and University of Kentucky alumnus Jordan Munson, instructor of music technology, as well as composer Michael Drews, an assistant professor of music at the institution. Each of the musicians performs on computers as well as acoustic instruments to create powerful and evocative experiences.
