LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 12, 2009) – Everett McCorvey, the
Lexington Opera Society Endowed Chair of Opera at the University of Kentucky School of Music
and director of UK Opera Theatre, and his wife, vocalist Alicia Helm McCorvey, will kick off Women Leading Kentucky's Winter 2009 Roundtable
Networking Luncheon Series. The series, which features lessons learned from three leading
Kentucky couples, opens with the McCorveys at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14.
As part of the series, the McCorveys will share how they have managed to excel in their careers while balancing their home life and supporting each other. A leading couple in the arts, the McCorveys will be followed by couples from the state's business and government sectors. Here are details on the three roundtables:
Alicia works to balance a successful opera career with being a mother of three children. She has performed various roles around the world, including the title role in “Carmen” in last year's UK Opera Theatre production. Alicia is currently forming her own opera company.
Outside of his leadership of the successful UK Opera Theatre program, Everett has performed on many stages, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and venues in Spain, Japan and Hungary. The tenor soloist is the founder of the American Spiritual Ensemble and serves as a member of the board of directors of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and as vice chair of the Kentucky Arts Council.
Other series luncheons will feature Lynn McNees, of the International SPA Association, and local developer Barry McNees on Feb. 19, and Kentucky Sen. Kathy Stein and Alan Stein, president and CEO of the Lexington Legends, on March 19.
