LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 2, 2008) − The University of Kentucky Department of Choral Music presents the 11th annual "Collage" concerts for your holiday entertainment. "Collage," UK's holiday concert program that brings to the stage more than 200 of the state's best singers, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Singletary Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

"Collage" is a popular holiday concert program that highlights holiday musical traditions from around the world. The concert showcases student vocalists from the highly acclaimed UK Chorale, Choristers, Men’s Chorus and Women’s Choir. Other unique sounds on tap include performances by the university’s popular a cappella groups, acoUstiKats, Paws and Listen and Blue Note, a vocal jazz ensemble.

"Collage" is also a great opportunity to hear featured soloists from the UK School of Music faculty, as well as special guest performers from the community. Featured UK soloists will include Schuyler Robinson, professor of organ and sacred music; Scott Wright, associate professor of clarinet; and graduate student Amanda Balltrip, recent winner at the Metropolitan Opera's District Auditions. Special guest performers at this year's concerts are the UK Steel Drum Band, UK Saxophone Quartet, UK Thoroughbred Brass Quintet, Lexington Singers Children's Choir and the Alluring Community Handbell Ensemble, under the direction of Steven Evans.

Also back for the program by popular demand will be the GrassKats, a UK bluegrass band comprised of Tanner Jones on banjo; Chris Weiss on guitar; Adam Beeken on bass; and Jefferson Johnson on fiddle. The group has become known for its popular medley of 'bluegrass-ified' Christmas carols.

Conducting "Collage" again this year will be Johnson, director of choral activities at UK School of Music; Lori Hetzel, associate director of choral activities; and Chelsea Steyn. Listen to "Adestes Fideles" performed by the UK Combined Choirs at the 2007 "Collage" concerts.
