LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 12, 2008) –The University of Kentucky John Jacob Niles Center
for American Music concert series "Bluegrass in the Bluegrass" presents a concert
by the university's own bluegrass band, the GrassKats, at noon Friday, Nov. 14, in the Niles
Gallery, located in the Lucille Caudill
Little Fine Arts Library and Learning Center. This concert is free and open to the
public.
The GrassKats, a five-member bluegrass band, have established themselves as part of Lexington's bluegrass scene since their inception in 2006. Led by the UK School of Music Director of Choral Activities Jefferson Johnson, the GrassKats blend humor, tight vocal harmonies and vivid fretwork to entertain the audiences they perform for across the region. The band features Johnson on mandolin; fiddle player Adam French, a music education senior in violin; banjo player Tanner Jones, a vocal music senior; bass player John Johnson; and guitarist Chris Weiss, a graduate student in music performance.
"Bluegrass in the Bluegrass" explores traditional bluegrass music from its old-time roots to its cutting edge flowers. Most series concerts take place at noon Fridays, in the Niles Center Gallery, located in UK's Fine Arts Library.
