LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 20, 2008) – The University of Kentucky Men’s Chorus invites the public to a special concert featuring the talents of their own nationally-renowned 65-voice ensemble, the a cappella group the acoUstiKats, and the newly formed GrassKats at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at Memorial Hall, located on the UK campus.

This year's theme, "Sweet 16: An acoUstiKats 16-year Reunion," recognizes nearly 400 performances given by the a cappella group throughout the state of Kentucky and beyond since its inception. Now, with more than 100 former acoUstiKat members, the Men's Chorus has invited all current and former members of the acoUstiKats back to campus to perform together at this special reunion concert.

A nationally recognized college choir, the UK Men's Chorus has spent the last three years performing at national conventions and conferences for such groups as MENC: The National Association for Music Education and the National Collegiate Choral Organization. While rising through the national ranks, the UK Men's Chorus also made a regional impression with their performance at the American Choral Directors Association's 2008 conference held in Louisville.

The acoUstiKats are a UK a cappella ensemble made up of 16 talented young men, who bring their own unique and distinctive sound to events all across the Commonwealth. "Performances by the acoUstiKats often have the whole audience tapping their toes and snapping their fingers," says Jeff Johnson, director of Choral Activities at UK School of Music and head of the ensemble.

The GrassKats, a five-member bluegrass band, have established themselves as part of Lexington's bluegrass scene since their inception in 2006. Led by Johnson, the band blends humor and fast pickin' to entertain the audiences they perform for across the region.

The UK Choirs 2008-2009 season is sponsored by 5ifth Element Creative and UK HealthCare. Additional sponsors for this reunion concert include Lexington Diagnostic Center and Open MRI, S & S Tire Company and Geno's Formal Affair.

Tickets for this concert are $15 for general admission and $5 for students and children. VIP tickets also are available for $30 and include VIP seating, parking, and admission to a post-concert reception hosted by President and Mrs. Lee T. Todd Jr. at Maxwell Place. Tickets can be purchased by calling the UK Student Center Ticket Office at (859) 257-8427 or through any Ticketmaster location.
