Research Creating Buzz in Scientific Community

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 12 , 2008) − University of Kentucky medical
researcher Dr. Jayakrishna Ambati is creating
discussion in both national and international scientific communities with his astounding
discovery about RNA interference, or gene silencing, that challenges the application of a 2006
Nobel Prize winning discovery in Physiology or Medicine.
Ambati's study, published in the April 3rd issue of Nature, has produced commentary in the June 2008 issue of Nature Medicine and the May 2008 issue of Nature Biotechnology.
Ambati is the E. Vernon Smith and Eloise C. Smith Endowed Chair and professor and vice chairman in the UK College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He is also professor in the college's Department of Physiology.
